Online Marketing & Social Media Marketing Mistake #1

My son Clayton and I went out for dinner the other night and I asked him to pick whatever restaurant he wanted to go to. He said he was in the mood for some roast beef and he decided we should go to Lion’s Choice. As we were walking in the building, there was a beautifully designed sign on the glass door that said, “Follow Louie on Twitter & Facebook.” I was left to assume that Louie the Lion is their mascot. I was also left to assume why I should follow him on Twitter and Facebook. Do you know why? It’s simple. They gave me no reason to follow Louie. As much as I like the roast beef sandwiches they sell, I have no idea why I should take my time to do that.

Their marketing people forgot to let me know what was in it for me and until they tell me the benefits I will receive if I do, I won’t be following them on Twitter or Facebook. Don’t make the same mistake..

Marketing Strategies For Social Media – 5 Tips For Marketing On Social Media

{“en”:”Even though it can be confusing at times, social media today is a business owners dream. With 2 billion users worldwide and many people in North America checking their email and social media accounts up to 17 times a day, no matter what business youu2019re in, social media is an amazing way to reach your current and potential clients and customers. And thatu2019s why on todayu2019s episode, weu2019re going to cover 5 of my top performing social media strategies, so you can build your business, grow your audience, and increase your profits. Hello and welcome, my name is Adam Erhart and you are watching the Modern Marketing Show.

Where we take different marketing tactics, tools, tips and strategies and break them down into bite sized actionable clips that you can use to immediately take your business to the next level. Never before have business owners had so much power, and we owe it all to the internet and social media. With the average adult spending 20 hours each week online, and for kids and teens its even higher, weu2019re living in the golden age of marketing, as you can now create, upload, and send highly targeted messages directly to your ideal customers. Social media also levels the playing field, as you now have access to the exact same tools and platforms as Apple, Nike, and Starbucks. So the key to connecting with your customers is to not only use social media, but to use it well. So here are 5 tips for marketing your business on social media. The most important tip in regards to social media is to know your target market.

This is so you donu2019t wind up wasting all your time, energy, and resources on a social media channel where none of your customers are active. Just like you wouldnu2019t advertise a crossfit gym at a seniors centre, you want to make sure your brand, your market, and your message align with whatever social media channels you decide to use. If youu2019re not sure which social media network would be best for your business, all you need to do is search the term u201csocial media network demographicsu201d, and youu2019ll have more information than you could ever need.

Social media can absolutely increase your sales, but you need to do it carefully and strategically. The key to building a thriving and profitable community for your business on social media is to give, give, give, and then give some more. Providing value helps build your authority, and takes advantage of the reciprocity effect, where the more you give, the more people want to help you, which will position you perfectly when you finally go in and ask for the sale. Design matters. Plain and simple. Ugly and amateur designs, bad header and profile images, and cheap graphics all work together to slowly destroy your brand and make your business look like it just doesnu2019t care, and above all, you want to look like you care. Fortunately, there are some great ways to get really professional looking social media profiles made.

For one, you can hire a graphic designer to create your images for you. This is the best, but also the most expensive option, the alternative is to use a solution like Canva which you can find at c-a-n-v-a.com which allows you to create professional and really great looking graphics for your social media accounts and itu2019s completely free. Video has quickly become the number 1 content choice for consumers online. With 78% of people watching videos online every week, itu2019s a great way to connect with your customers and 52% of marketers name video as the type of content with the highest return on investment. Video is also a great way to reach CEOu2019s, company presidents, and other high level executives with 75% of senior executives watching work related videos at least every week, and over half of them share the videos with their colleagues.

Finally, video allows you to connect with your customers in a way that print simply canu2019t by allowing your personality to come through. See? I feel like weu2019re already more connected. My final social media marketing tip today is slightly more advanced, but it unlocks a whole new world of possibilities, and thatu2019s to use the power of retargeting. Retargeting allows you to track and then send different messages to people who have shown interest in your business by interacting with some of your content. This is powerful because it allows you to send different messages, images, or videos to people who already know who you are, and are interested in what youu2019re offering, so you can continue to build and grow the consumer relationship over time.

Setting up retargeting is as easy as installing a few lines of code on your website, and once itu2019s done, you can start to track and collect data immediately. So thanks so much for watching. Passive Income: Does Affiliate Marketing Really Work?

{“en”:”- I’m gonna do my very best to rein in my overwhelming sarcasm throughout this video, but I probably won’t succeed. Hey, everybody, this is Roberto Blake of robertoblake.com, helping you create something awesome today. So, in today’s video, we’re going to tackle an interesting topic that centers around passive income, and specifically we’re gonna talk about affiliate marketing, everyone’s favorite scam. And I’m being very snarky when I say that, because affiliate marketing is not a scam.

And I’m gonna preface this by saying that, if you have friends that are married, and they’re in love, and they’re in la-la land, they will tell you that marriage, and love, and having kids is the greatest thing in the world, and that it’s such a joy. Right? Okay, now if you have a friend that is single, has been jilted, has been cheated on, and is stumbling into the bar every other night, then they’re probably gonna tell you that love is a sham, it is a lie, and that everyone is only out for themselves, and that you’re only waiting to be disappointed by people, because that’s their experience.

Meaning that people who have been successful at affiliate marketing will tell you that it’s amazing and it’s fantastic because it’s been very good to them. People who have tried it and have been met with nothing but failure will tell you that it’s a scam and that it’s a lie because it didn’t work out for them. And you have a real life example in the same form of life, and relationships, and love. Happy people who are in great, healthy relationships will tell you that it’s great, and that you should go out and find someone and get married. People who have been disappointed, and jilted, or cheated on will tell you that it’s only setting yourself up for disappointment. It’s the same thing. Everything usually comes down to those kind of, you know, binary decision-making things. So, let’s talk about why people aren’t necessarily successful, what my experiences are, and let’s deal with some of the myths around affiliate marketing, and passive income in general. When I talk about passive income, I’m not using your grandpappy’s definition.

I’m using the definition used by people like Gary Vaynerchuk, Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, people who are actually successful. And by that, I’m being, again, snarky and sarcastic because I’m trying to drive the point home that there is a modern interpretation of a word, and then there is a traditional or stuffy, professional version of a word, and those things evolve. It’s not that people are making up their own definitions or changing them, that these things do evolve. Uber wasn’t in the lexicon just a few years ago.

The lexicon just keeps evolving and changing. With that in mind, let’s deal with one of the elephants in the room. You need a big audience to be successful in affiliate marketing. A lot of people have said that the only reason I can talk about how successful I’ve been in affiliate marketing through platforms like Amazon, or through web hosting, or through TubeBuddy when it comes to a YouTube plugin, or other things, it’s because, well, you have this large audience in YouTube and in your other social media platforms.

There’s some validity and truth to that, that it makes it easier, in theory, to be successful, but it’s not a measurement of whether you can be successful or not, just because you do or don’t have those numbers in your favor because, anyone who’s ever actually done sales and/or marketing knows there’s actually only one number that matters: conversion rate. Conversion rate actually matters, meaning that if you have an audience of 100,000 people, but 0.01% of those people convert, it’s not really doing that well for you.

On the other hand, if you had 1000 people in your audience, and 10% of them converted, depending on what the margin is, you’re doing fantastic. Let’s put that into perspective here. What if I told you that even if you only have an audience of 100 people, that you still have a disproportionate opportunity to make a lot of money. Well, how is that possible? What if you were selling a product that has a really good conversion rate for your particular type of audience? And what if the margin on that in terms of your commission was really good? A primary example would be, what if you were getting $100 per sale through referring a service of some kind? Web hosting is a really good example of this.

Meaning that if you had an audience of people that absolutely, absolutely need a website, and you had an audience of 100 of them, even if only 10% of them were to convert the first time that you talked to them about it, well, 10 x 100 is $1000, so all of a sudden, you have the capacity to make $1000 through the commissions on that sale. And that’s not far-fetched, because companies like Bluehost do $65 payouts in commissions for the lowest-priced product that they offer in terms of web hosting, for people to build a website.

And there are other ones that offer a little bit more than than, just depending on what company you’re talking to. Some of them have higher tiers based on the product that you sell, meaning that if you sold the second cheapest, not even the most expensive, the second cheapest web hosting product that Bluehost offers, you’d get probably about $100 off of that, and if you aren’t sharing shared web hosting, and you’re starting to sell something really robust like dedicated servers, because maybe your audience are the type of business people that would actually buy a dedicated server, and would need an SSL cert because they’re doing e-commerce. Well those people, those commissions? They’re a lot more, that’s hundreds of dollars a sale. So, all of a sudden, your audience size doesn’t matter, right? Right.

So that myth can be squashed, it all comes down to what you’re selling. What if you’re trying to do something like Amazon affiliate marketing because that’s the easiest thing to do in terms of an affiliate program, and you still don’t have a huge audience? Well, if you’re specifically trying to convert people and sell laptops and you’re doing laptop reviews, I’ve got news for you. As long as the laptop’s about maybe $600 plus, the odds are your commission is gonna be about $25 based on the way they cap it out. If you sell a cheaper laptop, the price could go down, but as long as you’re selling a laptop that’s at least $600, you probably make $25.

So all of a sudden, trying to make $100 a day doesn’t seem that far-fetched. But to actually start to be successful at this, you don’t have to make $100 a day. If you start making even $30 a day doing something online that doesn’t take you a lot of time to set up, you’d be making an extra $900 a month. If you’re making an extra $900 a month, congratulations, you gave yourself a 10K a year raise, maybe you’re not quitting your day job, but you can take a vacation.

So, I really feel that if you’re struggling with the concept of affiliate marketing, it might have to do with you looking at it the wrong way, only seeing problems and not seeing opportunities. Not crunching the numbers, doing the math, and making it practical. And maybe you’re just listening to people who are forlorn and jilted, like the drunk guy who’s been cheated on or the spinster, you’re listening to them instead of people who actually have what you want, a good relationship. If you wanted to go out and you wanted to get married, you probably should be hanging out with and talking to, and being mentored by people who are in healthy, happy, loving relationships, instead of listening to people who are single and miserable, about what a relationship is or isn’t. Unless it’s, hey, don’t do all the things I did to end up where I am, that’s perfectly valid to take mentorship from them if that’s the case.

So again, if people are telling you, oh, affiliate marketing is a scam, or no one can be successful at it, or so on, so forth, I would advise you and encourage you to look at people who have been successful at it, find people that have been successful at it, and figure out what they did differently than people who aren’t successful at it, and then, if they’re willing to share that secret with you, replicate their success, do what they did, and you will probably see similar results. Just like if you went and you found somebody that’s actually fit and healthy, and has rocking guns, they’re probably a fantastic person to be your personal trainer. If you find somebody that’s not that, and is not happy with their body image, and is morbidly obese, probably not the best person to be taking nutrition and workout advice from. Probably not a good idea. Again, I’m being snarky, but I’m dead serious about this.

That is a lot of the issue with when people talk about marketing, or online, or video, or YouTube, or anything that they wanna do, if you actually look at and model people who are successful, and Evan Carmichael has a YouTube channel that’s all about this, by the way, about modeling the success of other successful people to get there yourself, and finding out what they did versus what you’re doing that hasn’t worked. That matters. Not only what you did that hasn’t worked in the past, but what other people have done that created their failure points. If you identify where the failure point is, and then you’re able to actually work toward addressing it, that creates the potential for success, right? If you find somebody who’s been successful, and you follow the same breadcrumbs as them, then you’ll probably be successful.

It’s why we use our parents a lot of times as a model for certain things that we want, because we use them as a baseline for success because they’re the most immediately, readily available example. But, when it’s time for us to go beyond the knowledge that they have, we seek out people who are experts in a very specific thing, in the form of, when you want to play football, you’re usually learning that from your football coach. When you want to learn martial arts, you’re going to the martial arts instructor. When you want to learn cooking, you’re going to culinary school.

There are people who have done a very specific thing, they are good at it, and if you want to be good at that thing, learning from somebody who’s mastered it, or is at least reasonably good at it, is the best thing you could possibly do for yourself. Anyway I hope this video helped you guys understand a little bit more about how affiliate marketing and passive income can work for you, if you actually put in the work to make it successful, and why, in my opinion and my experience, it’s not a scam. Like anything else, you get into it what you put out of it, if you’re doing it efficiently and effectively, and if you’re doing it with an actual plan that’s been proven to be successful. Anyway, I’d love to know what you guys think in the comments section. Also if you have a video request for a small business and social media Saturday videos, let me know that as well.

How to Make Money on YouTube with Affiliate Marketing

In this video im going to show you a super cool way to make money on YouTube with affiliate marketing as well as three pro tips on how you can make a lot more money that you do with Adsense and just monetization coming up hey whats up guys Sean here with video influencers helping you build your influence income and impact with online video and if you’re new here we post interviews with video influencers and tips and strategy videos just like this one so definitely subscribe so you probably already know that if you are not getting hundreds of thousands or millions of views on YouTube that turning on the ads on your videos just not making you that much money well I’ve got good news for you it’s called affiliate marketing what is affiliate marketing ? affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s or company’s products, you find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.

My personal favorite example of this is amazon.com here is what you do number one sign up for the amazon associate program number two once you are approved you can create a link to any product that you like love and use and that link will be unique to you number three you can create a review video or a tutorial video of that product and post it on YouTube number four then you take your unique amazon link and put it in the YouTube description of the review or tutorial video you just posted then when someone clicks on that link and purchases the product you earn a commission between 4 and 10 percent so if the product was a hundred dollars you would make 4 to 10 dollars but it gets even better if after clicking on you link they purchase anything for the next 24 hours you get a commission for that as well so as you can see affiliate marketing can be a super powerful way to earn extra income especially where there’s so many YouTube videos about tutorials reviews hauls and products and there’s literally an affiliate program for everything almost everything here’s how you can check just Google the brand name or product name with the words affiliate program next to it hit enter and the affiliate program should pop up at the top and seriously amazon eBay all the different beauty lines Nordstrom lots of big affiliate programs that have a lot of different stores included in them places like society 6 for like cool art work and coffee mugs and stuff there’s an affiliate program for almost every site online so I promised you three pro tips and I’ll get to those in just a second but first here are the most common mistakes that I see video influencers making when it comes to affiliate marketing I am amazed by how many reviews and kind of unboxing videos that I see with no affiliate links in the description and that’s probably because they haven’t seen this video so if you are getting any value from this video please share it with somebody that needs to see it but it’s like dude you are seriously leaving money on the table like if someone is going to pay a hundred bucks on amazon for a product is not more expensive if you promote it as an affiliate so the brand is just keeping more money and the video creator is not getting any compensation for all the hard work that when into making that video so don’t make that mistake I literally would go looking for a watch that im thinking about buying and I want to see a YouTube video about it and I’ll watch somebody doing all the work of reviewing it and Showing some stuff and then no affiliate link I could’ve reciprocated to the fact that they showed me all that cool stuff by clicking on their affiliate link and buying that watch through them but they are not doing it the second thing some people think it’s that is like sketchy or weird and affiliate marketing is not at all like I said you did all the work to make the video to buy the cameras to get all the gear your expertise your research the amount of hours you spend using the product has all got into the fact that you are just kinda recommending it and there’s a way for people to reciprocate all the value you added to them and it’s not adding any money to the price so that person who’s finding a product that could add value to their life and potentially the thing that they were looking for has gotten value so that’s like a win win win win win for everybody the only reason it could get weird is if you are weird authenticity is everything so don’t be salesy sketchy or stupid the third mistake a lot of video influencers make is that they don’t disclose anywhere that the links are affiliated and it is actually require by the FTC that you do disclose im confident that 99 percent of people just don’t realize that they need to disclose but it’s something that you know now so im not a lawyer and this isn’t official legal advice but for more details on this I will link some things up in the description below but basically you should put something in the description like this this video contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive a small commission boom! Ok so here are three pro tips for how to make money on YouTube with affiliate marketing number one Make sure that you verbally let your audience know that they can check things out in the description If you never get that call to action they may never know it exists and never go check it out thus you putting the link there is not going to do a whole lot a good secondly if you don’t specifically have a product to link to and it’s just a normal video or a vlog and it wasn’t a review or something you can always link to the gear that you created the video with which is a question that your audience a lot of times wants to know what lights are you using or just what’s your vlogging camera or those type of questions and all of those are relevant affiliate opportunities and then the third tip is make sure that you take the time to optimize your videos with good titles tags and descriptions and show them in another social media platforms so they get found because it’s does no good to do affiliate marketing if you aren’t getting views and subscribers and your channel isn’t growing you ultimately have to be reaching people and actually if you haven’t downloaded yet our checklist with 19 things to do every time you upload a video I’ll link it up in the YouTube card and I’ll put a link in the description below that checklist will help you ultimately reach more people with your message your advice your tips and ultimately help you build your income not just through adsense but also thought affiliate marketing and then lastly I’m gonna link up a must read article in the description by Pat Flynn from smart passive income on honest affiliate marketing and he really sums up my philosophy as well number one that you never recommend a product that you are extremely familiar with that you haven’t you know put the time in that you are not an expert on and you don’t have have some actual relationship with it and you’re not just like seltzer water buy it and you hate it I happen to love seltzer watter but im not sponsored by a them there’s no affiliate link to this number two and this is what Pat says never directly tell somebody to buy something you simply bring awareness to the fact that hey if you want to learn about more information about this and this is something I use and im using and here’s my info about it you can check it out if you want it’s not about being pushy or weird it’s about helping others in an honest way and giving your audience a way to support you with things they’re going to by anyway and also being able to build your income support your family and find your passion question of the day im curious did you know about affiliate marketing before this video and or do you have any tips on affiliate marketing let’s connect in the comments below and remember that some of the best conversation and tips happen form the video influencers community in the comments section so thank you so much for checking out this video definitely subscribe for more videos just like this and if you haven’t downloaded the 19 tips checklist for every time you upload a YouTube video make sure to grab that YouTube card up above or link in the description if you appreciated this video definitely hit the like button until next time keep crushing it and we will talk soon hey something you might wanna check out is my lifestyle channel SeanThinks and one of the things that i love about having other YouTube channels is on this channel I never just want to teach theories but I always want to be a practitioner in the trenches so anyways if you’ve never seen that before you can see some practical examples of even what im talking about in this video as usual links in the description link it up in the YouTube card hey we’ll talk soon later I gotta go

5 Rules for Succeeding in Affiliate Marketing

{“en”:”So you’ve been researching affiliate marketing and you’ve decided it’s something you’re interested in. If you really want to be successful in affiliate marketing, you’re gonna have to follow these five simple rules. It doesn’t matter what you’ve read or heard so far, there’s a lot more to affiliate marketing than you’ve probably been told. Research has shown that lessons incorporating a narrative are much easier to learn from and more fun to watch, so in this lesson I’m going to tell you a little story about Bob. First thing’s first — Bob has to get out of the “get rich quick mindset”. I recognize that not everyone watching this video shares that mindset, but if any of you do, you have to get out of it now. A lot of product creators out there know you’re much less likely to buy their product if they tell you the truth say it takes a lot of time and hard work, so they lie to you.

If you’re going to succeed in affiliate marketing, it’s going to be from a lot of time and hard work, not some push-button magical system or copy/paste shortcut. Which brings me to my second point, and it’s going to sound a little cheesy but it needs to be said. Bob HAS to commit to his new affiliate marketing business, and in order to do that he needs to promise that he will stick “with it” for a set period of time. I would recommend that it needs to be at least six months, but a year would be better. After Bob has set that timespan, he needs to do a little math and figure out EXACTLY how many hours he can commit to his business every week. Pick a number of hours you know you can work each week and hit those hours every week no matter what — come hell or high water you need to give that attention to your young business.

It may mean waking up a bit earlier or going to sleep a bit later, or even sacrificing a bit of time with your friends or family but you need to figure out how to give your business a minimum of ten hours a week. If you can give more, that’s even better; working more each week means you’ll build your business faster than someone working the bare minimum. And that leads us into our third point. Bob is going to be working on this business for hours upon hours for the next several months if not years, so it’s important that he’s passionate about the topic he chooses for his first website. A lot of products in this industry will tell you to pick the affiliate offer you want to promote first, but you’re MUCH more likely to succeed if you lead out with your passion – not a desire to make as much money as possible.

Bob is going to be working on videos, articles, blog posts, eBooks, and more several hours a week in the coming months, so it’s important that he has a passion for the subject matter. If not, he’ll burn out and his business will ultimately fail. Building out a website that has high quality, helpful content and is worthy of building a following takes a lot of time and effort, and it can really take its toll on a person. That’s why it’s extremely important that Bob not spread himself too thin. He needs to pick a subject that he’s passionate about and stick with it.

If he picks two or three websites and tries to build them all out at once he is extremely likely to get overwhelmed and do sloppy work. You need to focus all of your effort and attention on one website for the first few months. Trust me, there’s always more content you can create, graphics or website features that you can tweak, or things that you can do to spread the word about your website. And that brings me to our very last point — Bob is building a business, and businesses require a substantial time investment AND some financial investment as well. Anyone that tells you that you can be a successful affiliate marketer without learning how to build a website is lying to you. With the technology we have these days it’s not very hard to do, but it requires a few dollars a month and, as your business grows, you’ll probably need to invest in a few other tools as well.

You shouldn’t dread putting money into your business – you should embrace it because it means you’re moving in the right direction. It’s like having a fast-growing child that you don’t want to become malnourished. If you’re starting on a tight budget that’s fine, but just commit to not skimping on your business when it counts. Just because it’s an internet business doesn’t mean you can do it all for free. So I hope that you and Bob have learned a lot about what it takes to succeed in affiliate marketing. If you work consistently, you work hard, and you keep moving forward the reward of being a self-employed affiliate marketer is very much worth all of the pain and struggle you’ll face in these early days. Just keep reminding yourself why you’re doing this and, in the end, you’ll be very happy you followed these five rules. My name is Ian from NoMoreBSReviews.com and I hope you found this lesson helpful. For a bunch of other free affiliate marketing tips and training, visit my website at www.NoMoreBSReviews.com.
