Did you know that August 31st is Overdose Awareness Day? I didn’t either until I lost my childhood best friend, Ashtin Rose, on this very day three years ago. Through that pain, I’d like to announce my most important project to date: A charity fundraiser and raffle in support of addiction treatment and overdose awareness- And I’m putting my best friend’s name and face at the forefront of it all. This is the most I’ve ever truly opened up in a public manner.
I’m offering a large chunk of music memorabilia from my personal collection as prizes for the raffle. While there’s too much to list here, some highlights include a mask straight from Slipknot’s ‘All Out Life’ music video set, signed Slipknot and Stone Sour memorabilia, t-shirts, and black #8 jumpsuit and ‘Gray Chapter’ Corey Taylor mask replica made by Samuel Dean as stretch-goal prizes ($831/$1,000)! I’ll keep an updated list of prizes and other fundraiser info in my Instagram story and respective story highlights.
I hope to use this subreddit as my platform for tracking the fundraiser’s progress and to provide you all with updates, so stay tuned!
This past May, I brought us all together to raise money to send flowers to the Crahan family after the tragic loss of their daughter, Gabrielle. Together we raised over $400 and ordered the most beautiful arrangements possible. I’m so, SO proud of that and it’s in the same spirit I’m hoping we can all come together once more.
The Metal community continues to be affected by this plague. The first time I can recall its effects is when I heard of Paul Gray’s passing, and I remember the confusion and frustration that came with that… but I never thought that it would hit even closer to home a mere six years later. This wasn’t just a girl I knew- It was a person I grew up with, created countless memories with, and loved with every fiber of my being. Someone’s daughter, someone’s sister. A person with dreams, talent, and a contagious laugh. The person responsible for introducing me to the beautiful world of music, in-turn creating the person I am today. I lost that all in an instant- The world lost that. Forever.
This is for Ashtin, Gabrielle, Paul, and every other soul we lost too damn soon.

My ultimate goal is to further the strength of our community, through the name and face of my best friend. I envision being able to search her name and seeing all the people from all over the world that have shared in this- Shared in my pain. I am taking the deepest, darkest tragedy of my life and turning it into something positive. I hope that this can also inspire others to talk about their own struggles or how addiction has impacted their life either directly or through people they have known.
Together, we are strong. Together, we can kill the stigmas. Together, we can bring an end to this plague.

How long will the fundraiser be open?
I plan to stop accepting donations on September 13th
When will the raffle happen?
Shortly after the donations close. The exact date depends on how many donations are received, but I will keep everyone in the loop
How can I donate?
Right now the preferred method is PayPal “Friends & Family”, but I’m looking into alternatives. This way, PayPal/credit card companies can’t take a cut out of the donation and I can maximize the amount that’s sent to charity. Business transactions through PayPal also puts me at multiple risks, one example being that someone can claim a refund if they don’t win the raffle. Any payments sent through business will be immediately refunded.
Which charity will the money go to?
I’m pleased to finally announce the charity that the donations will be going to is Recovery Point . Recovery Point is a non-profit organization located in West Virginia that actively treats addiction and supports recovery at zero-cost to its patients. I considered many charities for this event, but decided that since this is a small, independently-ran fundraiser, a smaller localized operation could benefit more from it than a nationwide one such as Shatterproof. West Virginia is mine and Ashtin’s home, and no amount of distance or time away could ever change that- This is me looking out for my people. Although beautiful, the isolation and poverty of the Appalachian lands leads many kids down a path of drug abuse- I’m lucky to have made it out clean.
I can’t afford to donate, any other way I can help out?
I wouldn’t want to accept any money that you can’t give freely- Ashtin wouldn’t have wanted that either. You can always share the main post on social media and include the hashtag “AshtinRose”. If you are one of my Instagram followers, this will automatically give you an entry into the raffle.
Why not use GoFundMe?
I actually tried to set up a GoFundMe, but they do not allow the advertising of a raffle. I might still set it up and keep the raffle low-key on the site.
About Me
My name is Tyler Norman. I’ve been a major music nut ever since I was introduced to the band Tool by my best friend, Ashtin Rose. Growing up in an extremely Bible-belt, conservative household deep in the woods of West Virginia, this music was my only true outlet. As my passion for music has grown, so did my involvement in their relative communities. I often found that Metal communities were plagued with ignorance, so I set out to put an end to this and, in-turn, spread a positive message.
The Slipknot Camp was the first one that I’ve found that truly felt like home to me and I’ve continued to grow and make a name for myself in this community. I first made strides through my Instagram and the mask/cosplay content I was creating. I also did a roadtrip to Iowa in 2017 that resulted in a bit of a psuedo-documentary.
My first “big break”, however, came after being cast in the Slipknot music video for ‘All Out Life’. While I was only one of two-hundred people cast, I was the individual that the band decided to use for their marketing and social media. Yeah, that guy that was their Spotify picture for six months? That was me.
